How To Choose The Best Dog Harness, According To The Experts

There are several types of harnesses to choose from and they're listed below

  1. Back clip harnesses
  2. Front clip harnesses
  3. No-pull harnesses/head collars

Back clip harnesses

These harnesses have a D-ring at the back of the harness for you to attach your leash. These types of harnesses can also be a type of no-pull harness and can be used for daily use. Several designs are available for back clip harnesses. One design are halter style harnesses which go over the top of your dog and you buckle from the bottom. Another type of these harnesses are the slide in ones where you put the harness over their head and feed there arms through the loops- similar to wearing a t-shirt. Depending on the features you're looking for you can choose between these two types of back clip harnesses.

 

 

Front clip harnesses

The majority of front clip harnesses are usually no-pull harnesses of some sort. These types of harnesses have a leash attachment on the front of the harness where your dog's chest is located. By clipping the front of the harness it causes your dog to stop pulling if your dog decides to pull ahead. Front clip harnesses usually have a D-ring to attach your leash at the back also. These harnesses are very versatile and come in similar designs as back clip harnesses.

 

No-pull harnesses/head collars

These types of harnesses/head collars are made specifically to stop your dog from pulling. No pull harnesses are great training aides to teach your dog to walk properly beside you. Similar designs exist like back clip and front clip harnesses but there are also head collars. Head collars are fitted onto your dog's head. These type of collars are effective in pulling but take time to get used to.
